  • In this case study you will explore ICT systems within the context of designing a new water ride in a theme park. big grin

The ride must be water-based and involve some kind of boat or raft. The design of the boat is not important; the focus is on developing a
ride with one or more boats moving through a water channel safely and under control. The system could involve a feedback loop.

You will assess the requirements of a new ride, then plan and develop a safety control system.

The work provides you with the opportunity to evaluate the use of technology and reflect on its use in other situations. You will develop your abilities to plan, build, test, evaluate and document their use of control systems, as well as extending their skills in using sensors and control software.

Finally, you may be required to create an appropriate presentation to be shown to the park manager, outlining the features of the ride and how safety components have been included.

  • This evaluation and evidence workshop has been designed as a flexible and practical blended workshop, which can be delivered as a staff training activity to tutors / teachers over one day, or as a series of shorter activities to be completed over a number of weeks, or as appropriate.

There are many different ways it can be applied and deployed. Our view is that you just "wrap the content around the context" - from an informal session with tutors through to an activity within a formal teaching qualifications course.

Most of the topics can also be completed by individuals just wishing to develop their own knowledge and skills.

It is also non-linear, so there is no requirement to work through all of the topics in any order, as each can stand alone and can be delivered within variable timescales.

For example, you may wish to go straight to the online evauation matrix and use it as a distance staff training activity. You may wish only to use the offline face to face activities in the resource within a training session.

Although topic guidance notes have been included, these are merely suggestions for use and are not intended to be prescriptive.
